Floyd Mayweather and Gervonta Davis are embroiled in a heated and ongoing disagreement.
When Davis threatened to physically attack his former instructor on Friday night, it became more serious since he wanted to knock Mayweather out the next time they faced each other.
This argument is a result of Davis’s frustrations; he specifically brings up a previous jail sentence he received as a result of a hit-and-run event in 2020.
How did the partnership fall apart?
Despite their professional affiliation, Davis and Mayweather have had a turbulent relationship because Davis spent a large amount of his career fighting for Mayweather Promotions.
But tensions started to surface in 2017, the year Davis became the world champion.
Following his fight with Rolly Romero in late 2022, Davis broke away from Mayweather Promotions, choosing instead to follow his own route with the advice of Al Haymon.
The breakup seemed friendly at first, but things heated up again before Davis’s match against Ryan Garcia in April 2023.
The Mayweather facility is a vital location for Davis’ training camps, and he claimed that Mayweather was denying him access to it. Although there seemed to have been reconciliation—as demonstrated by Mayweather’s attendance at Davis’s successful rematch with Garcia—hostility has returned.

Davis felt that Mayweather’s recent criticism of contemporary fighters’ obsession with ostentatious qualities of fame and fortune was a subtle jab at him. Davis attacked Mayweather on social media in return, accusing him of financial irregularities and calling him a “hater.”
This public altercation is a reflection of a long-running conflict between Mayweather and Davis, which has shown up in a number of heated discussions on different internet forums.
