Elijah Zion Bieniemy, the 27-year-old son of Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy and his wife Mia, has been charged with three felonies after allegedly shooting his mother at the family’s home in Loudoun County on Sunday night.
Mia Bieniemy, 57, suffered serious injuries from multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to a hospital. She is in stable condition, according to a source.
Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of a shooting at a home on the 20000 block of Northpark Drive in the One Loudoun neighborhood of Ashburn at approximately 7:32 p.m. ET Sunday. One person was shot and taken to the hospital. Authorities detained at least one person at the scene and confirmed there was no ongoing threat to the public. The investigation remains active.
There is not believed to be any threat to the public.
Elijah Bieniemy faces charges of malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and discharging a firearm inside a dwelling. He was arraigned early Monday and is being held without bond at a Loudoun County detention center, according to the sheriff’s office.
Eric Bieniemy was in St. Joseph, Missouri, with the Chiefs for training camp practices when the incident occurred. He left the team and did not attend Monday’s practice to be with his wife and family. The Chiefs issued a brief statement saying the organization is “aware of the incident involving Eric Bieniemy’s family” but provided no additional details.
No motive has been publicly disclosed by authorities, and police have released no information about what led to the shooting. The family has long maintained a private life. The Bieniemys have two sons; their older son, Eric Bieniemy III, has cerebral palsy and significant medical needs that the family has managed for years.
Details remain limited as the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office continues its investigation. Further updates on Mia Bieniemy’s condition and any additional charges or court proceedings are expected in the coming days.
