Tom Brady talked candidly about the harsh NFL Draft process and said he broke down in tears when he realized his ambitions were gone.
When it appeared that Brady would not be making the transition to the NFL, he began to worry that he might have to become a “insurance salesman.” Although Brady is arguably the best quarterback in NFL history, his wait to be called up by the New England Patriots was difficult.
He was selected with selection No. 199 in the 2000 NBA Draft. In a video posted on the NFL’s Instagram page, Brady shared his thoughts on the historic day.
Tom Brady’s NFL Draft saga in his own words
Tom Brady shared his story and couldn’t hold back tears as he recalled,
“Being downstairs for the fourth and then the fifth round and that had been and gone, and all these other guys were getting picked and it was hard. I remember taking walk around the block with my mom and dad,” “It was a tough day you know, I just remember being there with my mom and dad and, you know, they were just so supportive of me. “And they take it as emotional as I do and, when the Patriots finally called, I was so excited, you know. I was like ‘I don’t have to be an insurance salesman,’ you know?”
“We were led to believe that he was going to be drafted, possibly second round, probably third round.”
“They kept calling quarterback names, and we kept being stunned,” “We were very distraught. With each name, it was becoming worse and worse.”
