The 49ers from San Francisco are trying to make amends. They have added a number of excellent players in the summer to help them accomplish this, including Josh Dobbs, a quarterback who adds a plethora of experience to the QB room. But even though Dobbs has more experience and has played a longer game than the starting quarterback, he is still in complete awe of Brock Purdy‘s brilliance.
The backup quarterback recently spoke on the various labels that pundits and media frequently place on quarterbacks, which he feels are just careless, on “The Victory Degree Podcast.”
Dobbs directly criticized the descriptions that were previously applied to his starting quarterback, stating that he was more of a game manager than a game changer.
Brock Purdy talks about Patrick Mahomes and the QB role
Purdy has both opportunity and consistency, which he believes are essential characteristics of elite quarterbacks. Furthermore, Dobbs took it a step further and included Patrick Mahomes in his appreciation for his primary quarterback. He said,
“Everyone’s like, ‘Oh, he doesn’t do what Pat Mahomes does.’ Well, I mean, Pat Mahomes has been playing for the Chiefs for seven years now. His progression as an NFL quarterback is different than Brock’s,”
Dobbs is adamant that Purdy is a talented player. Despite the many nicknames he has endured over the years—”System QB” and “Mr. Irrelevant,” among others—Purdy never lost sight of the goal and led the 49ers to Super Bowl LVIII in his second season as a starter after guiding them to the NFC championship game the year before.
