By apologizing to the man some people thought she was referring to in the anecdote, Kelly Stafford is addressing the “media storm” that followed her admission that she dated a backup quarterback in Georgia in order to make Matthew Stafford jealous.
In case it escaped your notice… Kelly revealed how she met her current husband while cheering in Athens during an appearance on the ‘Off the Vine’ podcast earlier this month. In an attempt to catch his attention, she acknowledged on the television that she went after his backup first. Naturally, the scheme eventually succeeded.
Though many people believed Joe Cox was to blame, the social media discussion that followed had nothing to do with Kelly and Matthew’s sluggish start.
After the rumor began circulating widely, Kelly finally spoke up on Tuesday. In response to some who said Stafford was “embarrassing” the Rams star with the anecdote, Stafford clapped back on Instagram, stating that Matthew doesn’t give a damn.
She also apologized profusely to Cox and his family for including them in her situation, especially since Joe wasn’t the backup quarterback she was referring to.
It turns out that Kelly’s entire story took place when Joe and his now-wife were dating. Kelly claims that their connection inspired what she wanted with Matthew.
Although Joe and his spouse have not made any public remarks regarding the issue, it’s likely that we won’t hear from them. Kelly undoubtedly hopes that this ordeal is over, but the video of her tale will always be available online.
