Paul George’s $68.7 Million Dispute Casts Doubt on His Future With the Clippers

Paul George‘s future with the Los Angeles Clippers appears bleak. The team and PG13 have not yet reached an agreement for the player to prolong his five-year tenure in the City of Angels. Every day that goes by, tension over the situation increases because the parties’ valuations are still very different.

The Clippers have already extended a three-year, $152.3 million contract offer to George, as free agency is quickly drawing near. The 34-year-old has persisted, though, demanding a $221 million, four-year contract from the team. An NBA fan on Reddit claims that the Los Angeles team is still refusing to budge from PG’s demands, which might lead to a $68.7 million disagreement.

There is not much more time for either side to make progress. After all, George has a $48.8 million player-option tied to his current four-year, $176 million contract. So, if the negotiations fail, he may choose to use his right to free agency on Sunday, June 30.

Will Clippers break the bank for Paul George ?

The franchise allegedly doesn’t waver in its position despite the tension. The Clippers have no intention of going above this bracket for PG, even after offering Kawhi Leonard a three-year, $152.4 million extension during the season.

The player continues to have the right kind of confidence in himself. Geroge was crucial to the Clippers’ postseason run, putting up 22.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.5 steals per game this season. Furthermore, his selection as an All-Star during this campaign served to uphold his standing as a premier two-way player.

Nonetheless, there are still not many teams willing to pay his high demands, advanced age, or problematic injury history when he becomes a free agent.
