LeBron James is about to adorn his cap with yet another feather. He will play in the NBA for the 22nd time next season, which ties Vince Carter for the most in league history. However, James remains one of the league’s finest players, in contrast to the Hall of Famer, who spent his final eight seasons as a reserve. Carmelo Anthony is perplexed by his longevity and feels that Dwyane Wade is partially responsible for the forward’s unquenchable drive to play.
In the most recent edition of the 7 PM in Brooklyn podcast, the two talked about the veteran forward’s incredible performance in his twenty-first season of professional basketball.
The superstar, 39, averaged 25.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, 8.3 assists, 1.3 steals, and 41% of his field goals came from beyond the arc.
Carmelo Anthony jokes with Dwyane Wade about LeBron James
“Enough is f**king enough,” quips Anthony, who counseled James to retire and enjoy life to the fullest with Wade and him. He continued by saying that since the 20-time All-Star had already drafted his son, nothing and no one remained for him to overcome.
Two decades after being drafted, James was still playing at an All-NBA level, which amazed Wade. This caused Anthony to question in jest:
“You encouraging him to keep playing? Tell bro, come on man. Come on.”
With a grin, Wade said he had no influence on James’ decision to play on, and he loves to see him play so well at 39. The Heat legend can look forward to a few more years of elite performance from his once colleague and close buddy.
The superstar of the Lakers has already ventured into uncharted territory. Only five other celebrities have participated in the NBA for at least 21 seasons. In their 21st season, they averaged a total of 24 points per game, which is 1.7 less than James scored by himself the previous year.
James doesn’t appear to be slowing down. It is possible that he might play two more seasons at the All-NBA level, if not more. A few more months will pass before he realizes his lifelong ambition of playing with his son Bronny, who is currently a teammate with the Lakers.
