Charles Barkley’s Reluctance to Quit TNT Is Embodied by His Denzel Washington Line : “Quitting on Top Ain’t the Same as Quitting”

The NBA has decided to make a contract with NBC, Amazon, and ESPN instead of TNT after giving it considerable thought. It implies that the run of Inside the NBA will shortly be coming to an end. But Charles Barkley made the most Hollywood decision to convey his reluctance to join a different team and network while he was thinking about it.

Asking if he intended to follow through on his intention to retire from broadcasting, NBA veteran Charles Barkley was asked during his interview on SiriusXM NBA Radio. Moreover, if what he claimed at the time was sincere. He said,

“Well, it’s still 100% true right now. The notion that I’m gonna go to another network and break in another team, I’m not sure I wanna do that at 62 years old. Because I’ve been with these guys for 24 years. It’ll be 25 years by the end of next year.”

Barkley adopted his co-host’s perspective, asserting that he knew exactly what Ernie Johnson had planned to do. He even acknowledged knowing what Shaquille O’Neal and Kenny Smith had planned for the future. He said,

“If I go to another network, they’re going to be coming for me…I used this line on another show and it’s a great line. It’s from Denzel Washington in American Gangster. When my man said, ‘Quitting on top ain’t the same as quitting.’ And it’s a great line.”

Along with TNT, Barkley spent a significant amount of time with his co-hosts. If he were to join another network, the chemistry on screen and the bonds he made with everyone would not be easily replicated.

Thus, even if Sir Charles might have had offers from other businesses, he is still apprehensive about abandoning his core group to join a different team on a different network.
