In addition to leading the Kansas City Chiefs to consecutive Super Bowl victories, Patrick Mahomes has expanded his trophy collection by taking home the 2024 ESPYS Best Athlete, Men’s Sports Award. After inspiring the Chiefs to a thrilling comeback victory against the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII, he was awarded the same honor the previous year.
The three-time Super Bowl MVP feels “blessed and honored” to win the trophy, but he also praised his other nominees, calling them “incredible athletes.” Mahomes honored Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, who accepted the trophy on his behalf, as well as the other athletes competing for the honor.

Patrick Mahomes triumphs over Shohei Ohtani and others
Over Major League Baseball phenom Shohei Ohtani, National Hockey League All-Star Connor McDavid, and professional golfer Scottie Scheffler, Patrick Mahomes emerged victorious in the 2024 ESPY Best Male Athlete Award competition. Ohtani led MLB in slugging percentage (.654), OPS (1.066), and OPS+ (184). He went on to win the 2023 American League Most Valuable Player Award. In his last season with the Los Angeles Angels, he hit.304 with an AL-high 44 home runs.
In the meantime, McDavid, who finished the regular season with 32 goals and 100 assists in 76 games, was named the NHL’s MVP and earned the 2024 Conn Smythe Trophy. With eight goals and thirty-four assists, he helped the Edmonton Oilers get within one victory of winning the Stanley Cup.
Regretfully, despite rallying from a 0-3 series disadvantage, the Oilers were unable to overcome the Florida Panthers in Game 7.
Last but not least, Scheffler has won The Masters Tournament—one of golf’s four major yearly competitions—back to back. He triumphed over Ludvig Aberg of Sweden this year with a single stroke. This season, he has won six events, including the Memorial Tournament, The Players Championship, and The Arnold Palmer Invitational.
Mahomes defeated two-time NFL MVP Lamar Jackson, 2023 Offensive Player of the Year Christian McCaffrey, and 2023 Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett to win Best NFL Player in addition to Best Athlete Men’s Sports. Naturally, fans were ecstatic for the Chiefs quarterback.
