NFL fans will have a field day at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics when flag football makes its debut with four other sports. Flag football is a non-contact version of American football in which tackles are made by taking off three cloth “flags” that are fastened to the ball carrier’s waist.
It makes sense that Cowboys standout Micah Parsons is eager to represent Team USA and has hinted that he would “take a break” from the league to get ready for the 2028 competition. The 25-year-old first revealed his desire to “find a way to get in the Olympics by 2028” in a Sunday tweet. When Parsons asked his supporters what competitions he could participate in, they recommended flag football.
This made him consider if he could represent Team USA, and he tweeted about it after that:
After 2027 ima take a break from football to prepare for the Olympics !

The #11 linebacker seemed to be content to step away from the NFL in order to adjust to the flag football regulations, which are more favorable to offensive plays and tackles.
Furthermore, many sportsmen aspire to win an Olympic gold, and Parsons is willing to forgo the first year of his contract in order to focus on flag football.
But according to former Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III, Parsons could still dominate flag football without the break, thus the concept of “taking a break” isn’t even necessary:
“No need. Just be the rusher in Flag Football. Most important position on the team. You have speed and are agile. It’s perfect for you.”
In flag football, moving from linebacker to rusher is difficult. However, Parsons’ running game is a key component that might work in his favor. But not everyone shared Parson’s enthusiasm for the Olympics.
