Following the Indiana Fever’s costly mistake during Friday’s 99-88 loss to the Minnesota Lynx, Caitlin Clark accepted responsibility. Clark put up a strong showing with 25 points, 8 rebounds, and 8 assists, but she felt that the Fever lost because of a critical error in the fourth quarter.
With the Fever down by one basket halfway through the last quarter, Clark made a mistake that gave Minnesota the advantage. “I made a really bad read” on a pass that ultimately lost her side a chance to get back into the game, Clark said, looking back on the play. After the game, Clark reportedly stated the following, per X reporter Matthew Byrne:
“Honestly, I thought we played really good in the fourth,” “My turnover in transition is what I felt like really kinda ended the momentum for us.”

Taking advantage of the turnover, the Lynx pulled away to win and end Indiana’s five-game winning run. The loss was a blow as the Fever got ready for the postseason, even though they had already guaranteed a spot in the playoffs for the first time since 2016.
Caitlin Clark keeps breaking records
Despite the defeat, Clark accomplished a personal goal by making 103 3-pointers in a single season, which became the Fever record. Her stellar play this season has cemented her place as the league’s rising star and kept her atop the WNBA Rookie of the Year race. Clark’s willingness to take responsibility for the error is indicative of her leadership and drive for improvement as Indiana proceeds.
The Fever will try to recover as the playoffs approach, and Clark will be crucial to their hopes of making it there. Already, Clark’s leadership and on-court play have elevated the team to unprecedented levels.
