When their great quarterback, Jordan Love, was hurt after being sacked by Jalen Carter, Green Bay Packers fans covered their eyes in terror. However, some fans went so far as to email death threats to players for the Philadelphia Eagles.
As part of the NFL’s worldwide effort strategy to grow the sport, the league traveled to Brazil during Week 1 of the 2024–2025 season. This gave the incident a unique twist and some great drama. At the Corinthian Arena in Sao Paulo, the Eagles—who finished second in the 2023 Super Bowl—overcame the Packers 34–29, but the true drama occurred when Love, who cost $220 million, sustained an injury late in the game.
Thankfully, he made a full recovery and was even added back into the game with six seconds remaining to try to save the Packers’ victory. However, a very harsh fate befell him as Josh Sweat and Carter sacked him.

In an ordinary NFL play, Love’s knee was seen popping out in what would have been a long-term injury for the Packers due to terrible luck. Carter made the revelation public when he captioned a picture of the incident—which included death threats—on Instagram with the words, “Making a football play, wishing Jordan the best recovery!”
The defensive tackle for the Eagles has received at least nine abusive texts, one of which even uses racist epithets, calling him a “n***er.” Nevertheless, the player has appeared to brush them off and plan to rise above the commotion for the time being.
When does Jordan Love suit up for the Packers next?
In Week 2, the Packers will host the Indianapolis Colts at Lambeau Field on Sunday, September 15. Kickoff is set for 13:00 ET/11:00 PT, however it is unclear if Love will play.
Love’s injury may be related to his MCL or ACL, which could prevent him from playing for the full 2024–2025 season.
However, in the unusual event that it is an ankle sprain—which it seems to be—his absence will only be temporary, as it wouldn’t be worth the risk for him to play on September 15.
