Kyrie Irving, a Mavericks Star, Blasts Ex NBA Players in the Media

After tearing his ACL on March 3rd, Kyrie Irving, a standout for the Dallas Mavericks, has some extra time on his hands. Irving is beginning his rehabilitation and spending more time interacting with his supporters as the Mavs compete for a Play-In berth.

On Saturday afternoon, Irving returned to live broadcasting on Twitch, where he displayed his collection of jerseys, responded to YouTube videos, and more. However, he also took advantage of his position to criticize the current state of NBA media, particularly the portrayal of former players.

Irving stated: “They have lost their way,” “There are some former players that just chat sh-t, don’t talk about anything, and just hate on younger players. You see somebody you admire go on TV and say, ‘Get over it because you make more money.’ I’m so sick of that.”

LeBron James criticized the status of the NBA media a few weeks ago. Irving is not the only player criticizing the media. Bron had said:  “‘I mean, it’s unfortunate, but like, why do you want to be the face of the league when all the people that cover our game and talk about our game on a day-to-day basis sh-t on everybody?”

Nor are they incorrect. Former athletes who have earned a profession by disparaging the current generation of players include Charles Barkley, Shaquille O’Neal, Kendrick Perkins, and others. Instead of discussing a game that is as talented and competent as it has ever been, the major brands would prefer to release hot takes to attract clicks.
