On Sunday, the Atlanta Hawks defeated the Philadelphia 76ers 132-119. Trae Young finished with 12 assists and 28 points. Young, who shoots 7.5 free throws on average per game, made 10 of his 11 shots against the Sixers.
Even though Young collected a lot of shooting fouls during the game, he did not receive an and-one on what seemed to be a fairly good play in the fourth quarter. Referee John Goble removed the basket after ruling that the foul was on the court. When Young objected, the fans began jeering.
Young then began pointing to the audience, encouraging them to keep expressing their disapproval of the call. He had already earned a technical foul by the time he began giving the thumbs down.
The fact that Rickey Council IV of Philadelphia missed the subsequent free throw could suggest that the ball was not lying and that Young should have been given credit for the basket. The Hawks triumphed, though, and are currently only one game behind.500 for the season.
