It was anticipated that Aaron Rodgers‘ 2023 coming to New York to join the Jets would usher in a brief but prosperous period in the Big Apple. Regretfully, it went about as terribly as you may have thought. When healthy, the squad finished 5-12 in 2024, but Rodgers tore his Achilles in the first quarter of his debut game in 2023.
It was therefore not surprising that the widespread consensus was that Rodgers and the Jets would split up when the season ended. Rodgers met with newly appointed head coach Aaron Glenn to discuss his future after head coach Robert Saleh was ousted in the middle of the season.
James Jones speaks about Aaron Rodgers’s stint with the Jets
For Glenn, it appears that the bitter taste has not yet subsided. He seemed to poke fun at Rodgers and his role as a “celebrity quarterback” while talking about his new quarterback, Justin Fields, and complimenting the young player’s grounded style. He said:
“He’s not trying to be the celebrity quarterback; he’s just trying to be himself. And whatever comes with that, it comes with it. So, he’s not trying to impress anybody. He’s going out there and he’s busting his (expletive) trying to be the best quarterback he can be for this team. Everybody sees that — and I like that.”
It doesn’t take a genius to figure out what he meant when he made reference to Rodgers. Former Green Bay Packers wide receiver James Jones, who now commentates for FS1, disliked Glenn’s subtle jab at his old friend. Jones and Rodgers were teammates for eight years, including during their 2010 Super Bowl season.
