Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid is often considered one of the finest football minds of our time. However, even the most formidable leaders can experience the burden of sorrow, and Reid is not concealing it in ESPN’s new documentary, The Kingdom, which provides an insider’s look at the team’s challenging 2024 NFL season.
The film showcases unseen footage from within the Chiefs‘ locker room, featuring candid discussions with Reid, quarterback Patrick Mahomes, and tight end Travis Kelce. Among the most touching moments is Reid himself, who appears noticeably emotional as he speaks about the team’s devastating loss in Super Bowl LIX.
A tearful Reid expresses in the trailer the pain of narrowly missing out on an NFL record: “It’s our life, and it’s an emotional game,”
“It was a bad day to have a bad day, for sure,”.
“Like all games, you can learn some things from it. It hurts for a few days and then you move on quickly. You get about three days into it where you mope around a little bit, and then, all of a sudden, you’re onto free agency and you’re doing your thing.”
Kansas City was pursuing a historic three-peat, a milestone that no team has ever achieved in league history. However, that aspiration came to an abrupt halt in New Orleans, where the Philadelphia Eagles dealt a shocking 40-22 defeat in the Caesars Superdome.
What was anticipated to be a defining achievement in the Chiefs’ dynasty instead served as a painful reminder of how delicate football legacies can be.
