Speculations about the Jake Retzlaff situation at Tulane may soon be resolved with the news that Retzlaff has allegedly committed to the university. According to College Football Senior Writer Pete Thamel, the institution has spent over a week reviewing the circumstances surrounding Retzlaff’s departure from BYU.
Some months ago, Retzlaff was named in a civil lawsuit concerning sexual assault. The lawsuit was dismissed in late June; however, he was facing a seven-game suspension for an alleged consensual relationship that breached the BYU Honor Code.
Retzlaff decided to withdraw from BYU and has verbally committed to Jon Sumrall and his staff as a walk-on player. In the previous season, Retzlaff threw for 2,947 yards, achieving 20 touchdowns and 12 interceptions for a BYU team that ended the season with an 11-2 record.
He also contributed six rushing touchdowns in the 2024 season. Upon his arrival in Uptown, Retzlaff will join the Tulane roster as the fourth transfer quarterback, alongside Donovan Leary (from Illinois), Kaden Semonza (from Ball State), and Brendan Sullivan (from Iowa).
