Jonathan Kuminga Turns Down the Warriors’ Offer Once More

The Golden State Warriors’ latest two-year, $45 million contract offer was rejected by Jonathan Kuminga once more, endangering his relationship with Stephen Curry and raising questions about the team’s immediate future. The standoff may affect the Warriors‘ long-term competitiveness if it is not resolved.

According to sources, Golden State’s refusal to provide Kuminga a no-trade clause and its demand on a team option for the second year of the contract are the main causes of the standoff. The 22-year-old forward and his agents are irritated by this lack of adaptability.

Aaron Turner, Kuminga’s agent, responded at the Las Vegas Summer League with a three-year, $82 million deal that would keep the Warriors below the second apron and maintain the taxpayer midlevel exception. Both sides are still firmly in place in spite of this proposition.

Kuminga and his agent have looked into alternate signings and possible trade options at the same time. The most credible suitors have turned out to be the Phoenix Suns and Sacramento Kings, who are both reportedly offering four-year contracts totaling about $100 million, including a final-year option. According to reports, Phoenix in particular offered the most alluring framework through a sign-and-trade agreement.

Golden State hasn’t demonstrated a strong desire to optimize the possible gains from a deal to Phoenix or Sacramento.
