Joe Flacco Attributes His Improved Physical Conditioning to Pickleball

Joe Flacco, forty, is staying in shape in a different way, and it has nothing to do with the gym. He has substituted a paddle for the barbells and is staying in shape this offseason by playing pickleball, which is surprisingly relaxing.

During the last ten to fifteen years, pickleball has become more and more popular. Players use a paddle to rally a plastic ball over a net, combining aspects of badminton, ping pong, and tennis. Being one of the easiest sports to participate in has led to a recent surge in popularity.

However, what makes 17-year NFL veteran Flacco favor the pickleball court over the gym?

On SiriusXM NFL Radio, Flacco shared: “I think you can fall into a trap of like, getting in the weight room, and then you think you’ve been very productive for the day because you’ve worked out for an hour and a half. But you’re really not doing much the rest of the day,”

“The pickleball thing comes up because at some point I realized, you can go out there and run and condition and do those things. But it’s better when you’re playing a game… When you’re playing games, you’re just kind of keeping yourself into it,”

It’s an intriguing observation. One of the best methods to build and maintain muscle is to work out in the gym, but it also drains you. In addition, you typically feel sore the following day and are unwilling to accomplish anything. The quarterback for the Cleveland Browns also stated that he believes his skills are improving as he gets older.

Overall, because the Browns have a four-way race for the starting quarterback position, let’s take this opportunity to provide an update on recent developments from the team’s camp.
