The hardest hit at Folsom Field on Saturday night didn’t come from a linebacker, but from a security guard who leveled a fan attempting to celebrate amidst a Colorado blowout loss.
During the fourth quarter of the Buffaloes’ 42-17 Senior Night defeat to Arizona State, a spectator ran onto the field, briefly pausing to perform quarterback Shedeur Sanders’ signature “watch flex” celebration. The fan, wearing a No. 10 Lajohntay Wester jersey, managed to flash the pose to a deflated crowd before being violently tackled by stadium security.
The incident provided a bizarre and jarring punctuation mark to a disappointing home finale for Colorado (3-8, 1-7 Big 12). While the fan attempted to energize the atmosphere with the trademark flex, the scoreboard told a different story. The Buffaloes had just surrendered 21 unanswered points in the fourth quarter, turning a competitive game into a rout.
The Incident Witnesses and video footage showed the fan sprinting across the turf during a stoppage in play. Upon reaching midfield, he stopped to tap his wrist—mimicking the “Shedeur” celebration that became viral during the team’s hotter starts in previous seasons. Moments later, a member of the event staff blindsided him, delivering a form-perfect tackle that elicited perhaps the loudest reaction of the night from the remaining fans.
Game Context The distraction did little to help the Buffaloes, who struggled to contain Arizona State’s ground game. Sun Devils running back Raleek Brown rushed for 255 yards and two touchdowns, including an 88-yard score that broke the game open.
Shedeur Sanders, playing in what is expected to be his final home game, finished with 161 yards passing and a touchdown but was unable to keep pace with ASU’s offensive explosion. The loss encapsulates a difficult 2025 campaign for head coach Deion Sanders and the program, which has seen its momentum stall significantly compared to the hype of previous years.
Security removed the fan from the field immediately following the tackle. No update on charges has been released.
