NBA media has recently been criticized by Commissioner Adam Silver. Fans have long debated the NBA’s media coverage in a heated manner. Leading the way are networks like ESPN and TNT, whose flagship programs have frequently come under fire for lacking technical analysis.
There is more competition than ever, though, with NBC and Prime Video joining the fray in the 2025–2026 season. Additionally, Prime’s team, which includes Udonis Haslem, Steve Nash, Dirk Nowitzki, Blake Griffin, and Taylor Rooks, has been highly praised. Silver was the most recent to recognize their efforts. Silver said:
“As a fan, I think you do a great job educating other fans about the game,”. “That, I would say, has frustrated me in the past about some coverage when it’s sort of reduced to ‘one side wanted it more’ or ‘this side played harder.’
“When you guys are explaining, like, why can’t a guy get a shot off, why is a particular defense working, I think the studio you guys built is off the charts… I think the technology that you’re using, when you guys go out on the floor to demonstrate things. I can say as a fan, I love that part of the coverage.”

Silver should occasionally criticize the NBA media since their coverage has an impact on the final product. It’s a welcome change that the newcomers are undoubtedly doing things differently. It’s encouraging to see that basketball is receiving the analytical attention it deserves.
