WNBA star Skylar Diggins sparked a public exchange with her estranged husband, Daniel Smith, over the holiday weekend, as both took to social media to air grievances regarding their ongoing divorce and child custody battle.
The Seattle Storm guard, 35, posted a series of messages to her Instagram Stories on Sunday, reflecting on a “drama-filled” 2025 and claiming she has been raising the couple’s two children primarily on her own via TMZ Sports.
“Been doing everything BY MYSLF [sic] for over a year now,” Diggins wrote. “Just me and my babies (and the help of my mom/dad.) THAT’S IT!”
Diggins, a seven-time All-Star who filed for divorce in March 2025 after eight years of marriage, added that she has been “working, paying the bills, being a present mother and battling through a lot of unknowns.”
Smith, a former Notre Dame football player, countered the narrative in his own social media post shortly after. He pushed back against the implication that he has been absent, citing legal hurdles in his attempt to see their children.
“I’ve been litigating, ordering and asking for custody since April 2025,” Smith wrote, according to reports. “Separation from my babies has never been okay with me.” He added that he wished the matter had been resolved months ago.
The couple, who met as student-athletes at Notre Dame and married in April 2017, share two children: a son, Rowen, 6, and a daughter, Ana Lia, 2.
The public rift follows months of tension since Diggins first hinted at the split during an April press conference, where she told reporters to drop “Smith” from her last name. Court documents filed in King County Superior Court earlier this year listed the date of separation as Nov. 1, 2024, stating the marriage was “irretrievably broken.”
Diggins joined the Seattle Storm in early 2024 after a high-profile departure from the Phoenix Mercury. While she celebrated a successful return to the court this past season, her personal life has remained under scrutiny.
The divorce has not yet been finalized.
