James Madison is scheduled to compete in the Sun Belt championship game against Troy on Friday, Dec. 5, and UCLA is permitting Bob Chesney to lead his team in that matchup. Furthermore, UCLA will allow Chesney to coach James Madison in the College Football Playoff if they win the conference championship and receive an invitation to the CFP.
Chesney has led the Dukes for the last two seasons, achieving a coaching record of 20–5 with the team. This season, James Madison finished with an impressive 11–1 record.
In contrast, UCLA’s season has concluded, as the Bruins ended with a 3–9 record after losing to their rival USC on Saturday.
UCLA has been on the lookout for a new head coach since terminating DeShaun Foster’s contract in September following the Bruins’ 0–3 start to the season. Tim Skipper has served as the interim coach for the rest of the season.
