Running back Bo Jackson announced Friday that he will return to Ohio State for his sophomore season, ending speculation that he might enter the transfer portal or explore other opportunities.
Jackson, a true freshman standout, emerged as the Buckeyes’ most productive runner in 2025. After opening the season as a third-string back, he quickly seized the starting role and finished the year with 1,090 rushing yards and six touchdowns, averaging 6.1 yards per carry.
The Cleveland native’s decision provides a significant boost to Ohio State’s offense, which saw notable turnover in its backfield this offseason with veteran CJ Donaldson exhausting his eligibility and James Peoples entering the transfer portal.
A four-star recruit out of Villa Angela-St. Joseph High School, Jackson was ranked among the nation’s top backs in the 2025 recruiting cycle. He didn’t play in Ohio State’s season opener but quickly made his presence felt with consecutive 100-yard games in Weeks 2 and 3, earning praise for his combination of speed and physicality.
Jackson’s return gives the Buckeyes a proven lead back as they prepare for the 2026 season and navigate roster changes through the transfer portal and recruiting. It also underscores the program’s ability to retain key talent amid a turbulent offseason.
