After incumbent DC Robert Livingston accepted a job with the Broncos as the defensive passing game coach, Deion Sanders is elevating staffer Chris Marve to Colorado’s open defensive coordinator post. Livingston’s move to the NFL was first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
After working under Brent Pry as Virginia Tech’s defensive coordinator from 2022 to 2024, Marve joined the Buffaloes this offseason at his final season at Blacksburg, Marve’s defense with the Hokies ranked third in the ACC in terms of points allowed (22.8 per game). However, his defense had a tendency to give up explosive plays, which ultimately led to his dismissal as Pry faced a lackluster duck year.
Livingston, on the other hand, will rejoin Denver defensive coordinator Vance Joseph in the NFL. Livingston and Joseph had previously been teammates on the Bengals‘ defensive staff.
As Sanders begins his fourth season at Colorado, Marve will be his third new defensive coordinator. Livingston has been Sanders’ defensive coordinator for the past two seasons after Charles Kelly departed Colorado for Auburn after just one season in 2023.
