Undefeated boxer Gervonta “Tank” Davis has filed a countersuit against his ex-girlfriend Courtney Rossel, seeking more than $20 million in damages and claiming her accusations of battery and false imprisonment were part of an elaborate extortion plot that cost him a multimillion-dollar fight payday.
In court documents made public Monday, Davis denies hitting or choking Rossel during an Oct. 27, 2025, altercation at Tootsie’s Cabaret in Miami Gardens, where she worked as a VIP cocktail waitress. He alleges she provoked the encounter as part of a scheme to shake him down for $1.1 million to make the matter go away.
Davis claims Rossel suffered no injuries, told her employer she was fine afterward and that the two spent the night together at her place following the incident, according to the countersuit.
The filing accuses Rossel of interfering with Davis’ business relationships. It says her civil lawsuit, filed days after the strip club encounter, prompted promoters to cancel a scheduled exhibition bout against Jake Paul on Nov. 14, 2025. Davis stood to earn more than $20 million from the fight, which was later replaced by a matchup between Paul and Anthony Joshua, the countersuit states.
Rossel has filed a motion to dismiss the counterclaim. She argues that Davis cannot sue her for reporting what she alleged was a crime.
Davis, 31, a Baltimore native and WBA lightweight champion, has not publicly commented on the latest filing. He remains undefeated in his professional career.
The countersuit is the latest development in a string of legal issues for Davis involving allegations from former partners. He has faced prior domestic violence accusations, some of which were dropped after accusers declined to prosecute.
The original civil lawsuit accused Davis of battery, aggravated battery, false imprisonment, kidnapping and intentional infliction of emotional distress. Criminal charges related to the incident, including a misdemeanor battery count, were later dropped after Rossel declined to prosecute, court officials have said. Davis has faced other criminal charges in Florida stemming from the matter.
