After allegedly placing thousands of bets on sporting events during his collegiate career, Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby is enrolling in a treatment program for a gambling addiction, the program revealed.
The official word came from the show on Monday. According to ESPN, the former Indiana Hoosier and Cincinnati Bearcat is under investigation by the NCAA for possibly breaking its betting policy by placing bets on a variety of sports.
According to the publication, Sorsby wagered on Indiana to win in 2022 while he was a redshirt true freshman, but he never made an appearance in any games. Sorsby may lose his eligibility if the NCAA determines that he actually placed bets.
In order to protect the quarterback’s health and well-being, the school promised to assist him during his recuperation. In response to the development, Texas Tech coach Joey McGuire stated
“We love Brendan and support his decision to seek professional help.”
“Taking this step requires courage, and our primary focus is on him as a person. Our program is behind Brendan as he prioritizes his health.”
According to reports, Sorsby was expected to earn over $5 million in NIL revenue this season. He was already predicted to be a name to watch in the 2027 NFL Draft and was one of the biggest returning players in college football.
