Well, nothing says “I’m sorry” quite like airport shopping under pressure. Enter Mike Vrabel, head coach of the New England Patriots, who is apparently trying to smooth things over at home with a baby blue sweatsuit. Yes, romance is alive and well, folks. It just now comes in matching cotton sets.
So here’s the situation. Viral photos involving Dianna Russini pop up. The internet does what the internet does. And suddenly, Vrabel finds himself doing what every man in trouble does: panic buying a “please don’t be mad at me” gift.
The location? Salt Lake City International Airport, because nothing screams heartfelt apology like a last-minute purchase between boarding calls.
And the store? Hip & Humble. The name alone feels a little too on-the-nose for this situation.
We’re told Mike looked at the matching set for a moment before yanking the items off the rack and speed-walking to the register to check out.
He was dressed down in light jeans, a blue puffer vest and a matching undershirt, accessorizing with a baseball cap, black travel backpack and Nike sneakers.
Jen was not photographed with Mike, and it’s unclear whether the married couple reunited at any point during his trip.
Mike’s purchase for Jen comes on the heels of Page Six publishing a new series of photos of the coach cozying up to Russini at a New York City bar, six years before the photo scandal that rocked the NFL.
“They were kissing and they were all over each other,” the source told Page Six. “He had a ring on.”
Apology gifts are tricky. Too small, and it looks careless. Too big, and it looks suspicious. A sweatsuit sits right in the middle. Practical, safe and slightly uninspired. Basically the “I hope this is enough” of presents.
In the end, Mike Vrabel may have coached big games, handled pressure, and led teams. But nothing, and I mean nothing prepares you for explaining viral photos and then picking the correct apology outfit under airport lighting.
We’ll see if baby blue saves the day, or at least buys him some time.
