Things are already getting messy for Quintayvious Hutchins, and the rookie hasn’t even had enough time to properly unpack his bags yet.

The New England Patriots rookie is now facing misdemeanor assault and battery charges after an alleged incident Tuesday night inside a dorm at Boston College.

According to reports, officers were called to the dorm after an argument between Hutchins and a woman escalated. Witnesses allegedly told police that Hutchins grabbed the woman’s neck during the confrontation and that both individuals were pushing each other during the incident.

Not exactly the kind of headline teams want attached to a rookie before training camp even starts.

The Patriots front office probably opened their phones Wednesday morning and collectively sighed loud enough to shake the building. Nothing says “welcome to the NFL” quite like seeing your name connected to police reports before fans even memorize your jersey number.

“We are aware of the report involving Quintayvious Hutchins,” the Patriots said in a statement. “We take these matters very seriously and are in the process of gathering additional information. We will not have further comment at this time.”

The police report also notes that the woman did not want pictures of her neck taken and said she was “OK” in her own statement.

Hutchins, who played at Boston College, was arraigned on Wednesday morning and released on his own recognizance after pleading not guilty.

At this point, Hutchins’ football future is suddenly taking a backseat to legal trouble, and that’s never a good sign for a young player trying to establish himself in the league.

And let’s be honest. NFL teams love talent, but they absolutely hate distractions, especially rookie distractions before the season even begins.

Now everybody waits to see how things unfold legally and whether the Patriots decide to address the situation publicly. Until then, social media will continue doing what it does best: overreacting, arguing, and creating highlight reels of opinions nobody requested.

One thing is certain, this is definitely not how Quintayvious Hutchins imagined his rookie headlines starting out.
