Basketball games are funny sometimes. One minute you’re cruising along with a huge lead, feeling like the smartest person in the building. The next minute you’re staring at the scoreboard wondering how everything went sideways so fast. That was pretty much the experience for Caitlin Clark and her team after blowing a big lead before escaping with a game-winning shot.
Clark, who has built a reputation for hitting ridiculous shots and making defenders question their life choices, once again found herself at the center of the action. The difference this time? The hero moment arrived only after her team made things way more difficult than necessary.
Fans watched as a comfortable lead slowly disappeared. Then it disappeared some more, then everyone started checking the score every ten seconds and sweating through their jerseys.
The Mystics smelled blood in the water and kept coming.
Meanwhile, Clark and company were learning a valuable lesson: no lead is safe when basketball decides to become a reality TV show.
Fortunately for Indiana, Clark eventually grabbed her cape from the locker room and handled business.

With the game hanging in the balance, she knocked down the game-winner and saved everyone from what would have been a very awkward postgame interview.

After leading by as many as 17, the Indiana Fever suddenly found themselves trailing the Washington Mystics by one with 4.3 seconds remaining.
An inbounds pass from Sophie Cunningham found its way into Clark‘s hands just before Washington’s Cotie McMahon could get her fingertips on it. As McMahon went flying past, Clark launched a deep 3-pointer that was nothing but net to give Indiana a 78-76 win over the Washington Mystics on Monday night.
With the win, the Fever move back above .500, improving to 6-5 on the season. Naturally, social media was abuzz after Clark’s game-winner.
In the end, Clark did what stars are supposed to do: when the pressure peaked and the game was on the line, she delivered.

Sure, losing a huge lead wasn’t part of the plan, but hitting the game-winner made for a much better ending.
