Before taking his own life, Claude Lemieux‘s son told authorities that the NHL great had relapsed into sex addiction. He also said that his family had observed his conduct deteriorating in the year preceding his death.
According to a California Post article, Brendan Lemieux spoke with investigators from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office about his father’s difficulties on May 28, just after discovering Claude deceased at the family’s Lake Park, Florida, business.
The site examined police tape in which Brendan said stated that his mother, Deborah, found out that Claude was no longer sober, clarifying that his father’s main problem was sex addiction rather than alcohol, though he claimed stated he wasn’t sure if his father had resumed drinking.
He informed detectives that although Claude had been sober for almost ten years, the family had started to notice behavioral changes approximately a year prior. According to Brendan, things had just “spiraled completely,” with Claude acting aggressively and mistreating others.
Brendan claims that on May 27, at around 10:30 PM, Deborah confronted Claude. He admitted to relapsing before she ordered him to leave their house.
A few hours later, Brendan drove to the family company to see how his father was doing after noticing that his address had changed. He discovered his father dead inside the structure. This news was first reported by the NY Post.
After 12 years of recovery, Brendan informed investigators that the family was afraid Claude had relapsed.
