The WNBA is removing a video of Paige Bueckers and Angel Reese wagering $400 on a game’s outcome from its X account in an attempt to backtrack on a social media post that highlighted two of its best stars in violation of league standards.
During All-Star Weekend, Bueckers and Reese struck a friendly bet in which they agreed to pay four clean $100 notes if their teams lost on Wednesday.
In the video, Reese stated, clutching a bundle of cash:
“I know y’all gonna lose … but if y’all win, you get the 400,”
Before the Dallas Wings vs. Atlanta Dream game, Bueckers was reminded of the conversation, and she reiterated her promise by saying, “Bet. I’m standing on that.”
The entire exchange was posted on X by the league, along with the comment, “Paige Bueckers on the bet she made with Angel Reese at All-Star Weekend on tonight’s matchup.”
After the competition, Reese’s Dream quipped that she was anticipating an Apple Pay transaction from the former UConn baller.
Given that sports betting has become a major problem in the NBA in recent years—Jontay Porter was banned for life in 2024—Reese and Bueckers are unlikely to receive the Pete Rose treatment, but they may be fined or suspended for the hoax. The WNBA has not yet addressed any potential penalties.
