Apparently, NFL training camp has a new position group.
Quarterbacks, wide receivers, defensive backs, and, naturally, WAGs.
New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart’s girlfriend, Marissa Ayers, recently found herself dealing with criticism from people who apparently believe NFL training camp should involve nothing but helmets, sweat and zero human interaction.
Ayers responded to the “negative commentary” and “hate online” surrounding wives and girlfriends being around training camps. During a recent TikTok video, she laughed off the criticism.
“It’s been so fun because I’ve been able to meet the girls — a lot of the girlfriends, the wives it gives us a chance to meet and bond,” said Ayers, who showed off her “football girlfriend” outfit.
“This week [at training camp] it’s just a little more intimate, so, family, girlfriends, [and] wives… Because I’m seeing comments, and it’s like, ‘Why are the girlfriends there?’
“It’s to bring the families together. It just kind of gives everyone a chance to meet, hang out and bond and just be a part of it. The kids can go and see their dads, it’s so cute.
“They basically practice for 2-3 hours, and you see the players for maybe like 10 minutes… and then they’re back in meetings for the rest of the afternoon and night. It’s not like they’re hanging out. Trust me, they’re locked in.
“It’s a chance for us to be supportive before the season. Just so much hate online and negative commentary around players.”
Dart has plenty of pressure on him already. The quarterback is entering a massive chapter of his career with the Giants. Every throw will be analyzed, every mistake will become a headline, and every good performance will trigger another round of hype.
Adding girlfriend discourse to that list seems unnecessary.
Ayers clearly isn’t letting the noise bother her. She laughed at the criticism and reminded everyone that Dart remains focused on football.
That should probably settle it, unless, of course, the internet decides that smiling during training camp is now a violation of the NFL rulebook.
