Some people travel for love, others travel for a vacation, a concert, or a really good plate of food.
Then there is the man who drove more than 1,000 miles to marry OnlyFans star Sophie Rain.
Yes, you read that correctly. The bizarre incident reportedly happened in May at the Mondrian South Beach hotel in Miami. Rain was in town for her runway debut at Miami Swim Week. She probably expected cameras, fashion, and maybe a few nervous butterflies.
Instead, she allegedly got an unwanted marriage proposal from a complete stranger.
According to Rain’s friend, the man approached the model in the hotel lobby. He reportedly told her that he had driven more than 1,000 miles specifically to marry her. That is quite the road trip.
According to her friend, the man allegedly tried to grab Rain after she turned him down.
Nothing says “future husband” quite like ignoring the word no.
“He had apparently traveled from New York to Miami specifically to find Sophie. That immediately raised serious concerns for everyone around her,” said Connor McCrory, a close friend of Rain, who heads up her marketing.
“It was especially alarming because this was not somebody who simply recognized Sophie and asked for a photograph. He claimed he had crossed several states because he intended to marry her.”
The unnerving situation got scarier when the unhinged man tried to grab the 21-year-old Miami native, who owns a 20-acre farm in Central Florida.
“At that point, our only priority was getting her away from him and making sure she was safe,” he continued.
“When someone says they traveled that far to marry a person they have never met and then tries to grab her, you cannot treat that as harmless excitement. It has to be taken seriously.”
Although Rain’s team did not call the police, they did report the harrowing incident to the hotel.
“We wanted staff to be aware of the situation in case he remained on or returned to the property,” McCrory said.
Rain’s appearance at Miami Swim Week was supposed to be a major moment for the internet personality. Instead, she reportedly found herself dealing with a frightening encounter before getting back to business.
The whole situation also highlights a problem that comes with being a huge online personality. Fans can feel like they know someone because they see them constantly on social media.
