Megan Thee Stallion is opening up about heartbreak, healing and the emotional mess that comes after a relationship suddenly goes from “we’re good” to “what just happened?”
The Houston rapper reflected on her breakup with NBA star Klay Thompson in a new cover story with Marie Claire. The relationship ended abruptly in April, and Megan admitted she is still picking up the pieces and moving forward.
Apparently, even celebrities do not get a magical “delete feelings” button.
It’s clear the subject is still tender. The typically extroverted, bawdy star is quiet, careful, and, again, trying to stave off tears as she speaks. She says she has been letting herself feel it rather than trying to rush past the heartbreak. “I’m not pretending I’m 100 percent okay,” she says. “I ain’t never been through nothing like that in my whole life. I’ve never, ever, ever been in a relationship like that, ever. So I’m definitely not worried about another one for a long time.”
She is still grieving the loss of the future she thought she had found, she adds. “It was so abrupt. I’m in shock still.” But from where she is now, Megan believes she’s better off on her own—and shies away from further details on what transpired.
“When something is meant for you, it’s gonna be easy,” she says. “It’s gonna be right. It’s not gonna feel like a panic all the time. I feel like that’s what I was in, constantly on edge. My nervous system needed to calm down. I feel like I was in a panic 24/7. I’m still not eating all the way right. I’m feeling all the feelings. I’m not trying to take no shortcuts.”
For Megan, however, moving on has not been as simple as posting a glamorous picture and pretending everything is perfectly fine.
She described the ending as abrupt. That word alone says plenty. Breakups are difficult enough when both people have time to prepare. When something ends suddenly, there can be plenty of unanswered questions left behind.
Meg has been busy working on her Act: III album and is not looking for another relationship at the moment. “I’m not thinking about anything romantic,” she said.
The Billboard Hot 100-topping rapper continued to explain that she was in a constant state of panic while with Thompson. “I feel like that’s what I was in, constantly on edge. My nervous system needed to calm down,” Meg added. “I feel like I was in a panic 24/7. I’m still not eating all the way right. I’m feeling all the feelings. I’m not trying to take no shortcuts.”
Heartbreak does not care if you are famous, it does not care if you have hit records, designer clothes or millions of followers. You can still end up staring at your phone wondering why somebody suddenly became a stranger.
And yes, Megan has probably learned that lesson the hard way.
The relationship ended, it hurt, she is processing it, and she is moving forward.
Ms. Stallion is implying that Klay wanted her to be something she isn’t willing to be. If you want to be with Ms. Stallion, you have to understand that the hot girl persona comes with it, and if you can’t handle that, it won’t work out.
