Rick Ross is dealing with some very serious legal trouble in Miami.
The rapper was arrested early Thursday, October 1, in Miami Beach in connection with a domestic violence case. According to Miami-Dade jail and court records, Ross was booked at about 6:10 a.m. and faces charges of felony battery by strangulation and misdemeanor battery.
So, yes, this is much bigger than another celebrity Instagram argument.
The arrest comes just days after Ross’ former girlfriend, Jazzma Kendrick, publicly accused him of physical abuse.
Kendrick shared photos of an injured lip on Instagram and alleged that Ross had assaulted her during their relationship.
Kendrick also described herself as having been treated like a “punching bag.” She said the alleged incident was the day she decided to leave the relationship.
According to online records, Rick Ross, real name William Leonard Roberts II, was booked into jail on battery and battery by strangulation charges at 6:10 a.m. local time. Current case information shows that he is currently being held on a total bond of $ 6,000, although it has not yet been submitted, and he remains behind bars. He has not yet publicly commented on his arrest.
Now, Ross finds himself behind bars while facing serious allegations.
His arrest comes shortly after his on-and-off girlfriend, model Jazzma Kendrick, accused the rapper of putting his hands on her. In a post on her Instagram, she replied to a comment that read, “I’m seeing what Rick is seeing [you’re] so gorgeous.”
She wrote in response, “He saw a punching bag.” She later shared a photo showing her with a bruised lip and wrote, “The day Rick busted my lip and the day I left.”
She added, “I don’t know a lot of things, but I do know that a man that puts his hands on me, is a man that never loved me and never will… It’s always good until it isn’t. If a man hits you one time, he will do it again. Don’t give him the opportunity. Value your life and leave.”
This is obviously not the kind of headline anyone wants attached to their name.
Ross has spent decades building a larger-than-life image in hip-hop, but celebrity status does not put anyone above the law.
The internet may already have its opinions, social media detectives may already be working overtime, but the courtroom is where the facts will ultimately be tested.
And this story is clearly far from finished.
