Top-ranked high school basketball recruit Andrew Wiggins has been in no hurry to announce his college plans.
While fellow McDonald’s All-Americans like Jabari Parker, Julius Randle and the Harrison twins let the world know about their college plans months ago, basketball fans at Kansas, Florida State, Kentucky and UNC are all anxiously waiting on the Wiggins to the say the word.
While those four programs are Wiggins’ stated final four, his West Virginia host mother thinks another school should be on the list.
“If it was my choice, I’d say he should go to Louisville,” said Lesley Thomas (via The Courier-Journal.com), who has hosted Wiggins during his time at Huntington Prep “Yes, I would have, because I love Coach Pitino’s program.”
The Courier-Journal reports that Thomas also hosted current Louisville center Gorgui Dieng when he was at Huntington.
It’s highly unlikely that Wiggins will end up at Louisville since he’s been pretty direct about which schools he’s considering, but Thomas did add some more pertinent information when she said that she expects Wiggins’ real mother to come down from Toronto for Wiggins’ announcement “in the next week or so.”
It’s tough to criticize the player who’s been dubbed by some as the “Canadian LeBron James” for taking his time, but for his sake you have to hope that his formal announcement doesn’t turn into a LeBron James-type production because of the long wait.
