After signing his new 3-year $53 million deal, opinions ranged far and wide on Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford. Stafford’s ability and talent have never been in question, but his production and team results have left a lot to be desired. He threw just 20 Touchdowns last season and is 1-23 against teams with a winning record.
So when Donovan McNabb let it be known that he feels Stafford didn’t deserve the money on NFL Network, I wondered if word would get back to the newly paid signal caller. Courtesy of The Kevin Burke Project, we see what Stafford had to say while on ESPN’s Mike and Mike in the Morning about McNabb’s thoughts.
“I understand where Donovan is coming from…but as long as those guys in that locker room believe in me, that’s all that matter.”
I didn’t really expect Stafford to fire back so this isn’t surprising.
Besides, best way to quiet critics is results on the field. If the Lions take that next step as a franchise, this deal will be looked at as a smart investment.
