Last night the NBA held their draft lottery for the 2015-2016 season and its results are already creating a stir. The Minnesota Timberwolves won the No. 1 overall pick and the Los Angeles Lakers were rewarded for their terrible season with the second overall pick. Jahlil Okafor and Karl-Anthony Town will arguably be the first two players drafted and one of them maybe trying to wiggle his way out of the first pick to land in the more favorable city of L.A.
Okafor was asked by Sports Illustrated about being the first overall pick:
“I don’t know that I should go No 1. I don’t care. I just want to go to the right environment for me and the right team. I think the hype about No. 1 is more for fans.”
This kind of sounds like the politically correct answer from Okafor. Looking at this on the surface coming off a national title win, I would much rather play for the Lakers over the T-wolves. The Lakers have a winning history, a living legend in Kobe Bryant and they play in L.A. Their won’t be much of a financial drop off by slipping to the No. 2 pick so I don’t fault Okafor for not pushing his name as the No. 1 overall pick.
