If you’re a Jets fan, Im sure you wondered where part of your starting defensive lineman during the first quarter of Sunday’s loss to Miami, and it seems like we finally have some news.
According to NY Daily News, Jets Head Coach, Todd Bowles, decided to bench Muhammad Wilkerson and Sheldon Richardson after missing a team meeting and revered it as a “coach decision”. Neither player addressed the benching directly other than Richardson stating,
“That was the starting lineup and that’s where I was.”
While Richardson isn’t a repeat offender, Wilkerson is. Wilkerson has been fined a year ago for the exact same reason while also being fined. No word has been relayed to whether the team will seek further punishment. Yet, the question begins start on if Bowles is losing control of his team with the expectations of the team failing. With QB Ryan Fitzpatrick calling out management with their disaster attempt at fixing their QB situation, its looking like Bowles isn’t resonating with his team.
The Jets have been searching for their identity and it looks like, they still can’t gel. It wouldn’t be surprising if Bowles is fired midseason to try and salvage what little they can, but if you’re the Jets front office, you wonder if you keep changing coaches or decide its time to rebuild your players.
