Kevin Durant is potentially on his way to a third consecutive NBA Championship this season with the Golden State Warriors.
Kevin Durant may also be playing his final season with the Golden State Warriors, and if so he has no regrets about joining the team.
Speaking with Michael Lee of The Athletic, Durant offers his perspective on this season and time with Golden State as he and the Warriors gear up to try and win a third title in as many seasons.
Durant, of course, received a ton of backlash when he initially joined the Warriors, as he bolted their chief rival in his former team the Oklahoma City Thunder.
His decision to join the Warriors changed the balance of power in the West from that day forward and has led to his winning of two titles and two NBA Finals MVPs.
Durant’s looming free agency decision has been a large topic of discussion this season for him and the Warriors. Despite that, Durant is having another great season averaging 26 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists.
He has improved his overall game and if he chooses to go elsewhere, whether it be the Knicks or otherwise, they will be getting a much better version of Durant.
That is in no small part to his development due to his being around the likes of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, etc.
Durant telling Lee,
“I enjoy the way they played basketball. I never played with shooters like that. That moved. That were versatile players. I wanted to be a part of that.”
While he and the Warriors have had their fair share of drama this season, it has not derailed Durant from his ultimate of goal of winning another championship, even if it is his final go round with the Warriors.
Durant when asked if all the backlash of joining the Warriors worth it told Lee,
“Of course… I sacrificed a lot of sh*t to be here and to change my game up to be with these guys. And it was worth it.”
Durant and the Warriors are sure glad he joined them as they look to make history in these playoffs once again.
The Warriors open up defense of their NBA championship Saturday night at home against the Los Angeles Clippers.
