Vivid CEO Steven Hirsch’s 2014 interview with Vladtv has resurfaced following news of Kim Kardashian calling her lawyers to make sure Ray J doesn’t release another wild recording of them. Steven talked about the successes his company has had with celebrity s*x tapes including Kim Kardashian and Ray J’s tape.

In this VladTV Flashback from 2014, Vivid Entertainment’s CEO Steven Hirsch opens up about the success that the company has had with celebrity sex tapes, which he said started with the Pamela Anderson/Tommy Lee tape, but was “broke wide open” with Kim Kardashian and Ray J. Hirsch was asked about the legality of putting out a tape without the consent of the parties in the video, which led to a conversation of obtaining Kim Kardashian’s sex tape.
Steven admits that he was approached by a third party with the video, and explains that he then came to Kim about putting the tape out. After offering her a several million dollar deal, Kim agreed to release the tape, because as Steven explains, there was the chance of it leaking on the internet, where she would get no money.
The Kardashians always framed it like the tape was leaked without their permission and they never wanted it out there, but most people believe and this backs it up they were in charge of getting the tape out there.
From what I understand Vivid was trying to decide what to do with the tape after they bought it and the Kardashians sued them not because they were upset it was about to leak but because they weren’t going to get any money from it. Vivid ended up paying Kim Kardashian $5 million to get her permission to leak the tape and I believe she and Ray J still get residuals to this day.
