Seems like former NBA player and now solid assistant coach Brian Shaw is going through his Mark Jackson phase of trying to get a NBA head coaching job.
Remember every season Mark Jackson’s name would come up for a head coaching vacancy only to end up back as an lead announcer for NBA games.
CBSsports.com via the Sports Exchange is reporting that the Indiana Pacers have given Shaw permission to speak with the Portland Trailblazers about their open head coaching vacancy.
Pacers assistant coach Brian Shaw will interview to be head coach of the Portland Trail Blazers this weekend.
Shaw was granted permission by the Pacers to meet with Portland. He previously interviewed with Charlotte and is a candidate for the opening in Orlando.
It is an awkward situation for Shaw being that the Blazers still kind of have a head coach in Kaleb Canales.
Canales is basically in lame duck status but their is no guarantee that Shaw will get this job or any other one this off-season.
Shaw was also suppose to take over for Phil Jackson with the Lakers before Mike Brown swooped in and got the job.
Worst case Shaw will return to Indiana for another year of seasoning.
