Kevin Durant has revealed why he doesn’t want to get married.
Looks like Kevin Durant is staying single and unbothered, and he’s not shy about why. The NBA superstar recently opened up about why marriage just isn’t on his list of priorities, and let’s just say, KD sounds perfectly happy living that bachelor life.
In a latest Bobbi Althoff podcast, Durant got real about relationships. According to him, he’s not looking for anything serious with anyone.
“I think divorce is actually more of a realistic… ‘cause I mean, the percent is higher,” said Durant, as Althoff claimed that 50% of all marriages end in divorce. Still, the Houston Rockets forward then told the host, “That’s not good odds.”
After Althoff pointed out that Durant often faces worse odds while playing basketball, he fired back, “Yeah. But still, that’s like banking on the rest, like, forever though. … I don’t know if I want to take those odds.”
“It’s just like the word ‘marriage’ that I get, but it’s more so like what that relationship is like,” Durant later clarified. “Do I want to be with this somebody every day? Hang with the same person every day?”
Durant also ruled out wedding ceremony should he even decide to get married.
“I never really dreamt of having a wedding day,” the star forward told Althoff. “It was never really when I go to weddings. It’s like, ‘Oh, this is cool. This is dope. This is cool.’ ” But, he added, “It’s not like it needs to happen in my mind.”
KD isn’t shutting the door on relationships but has no expectations.
“I’m open-minded,” Durant told the host. “I’m sure that may happen. I’m not closing the door or nothing — but I’m not expecting it. That’s all I’m saying.
According to the NBA star;
He’s just looking for “the basics” — minus any labels or “expectations.”
“Oh, just somebody I can hang out with every day that I can talk to that’s cool. You know, the basics. Somebody I could really be friends with, and not look at it as if, like, ‘You’re my girlfriend,’ ‘I’m your boyfriend.’ Like that expectation, that title, that cloud that comes with that instead of like, just us being natural friends,” he told the host. “I’d rather that.”
“No expectations is a little better for me, ‘cause sometimes I might not want to talk to you or see you,” the star added.
KD said the last time he lived with a woman it just fizzled as he realized he didn’t want to see someone every single day.
Of course, the internet had thoughts. While some admired his stance on marriage and relationships, others, disagreed with him and encouraged him to be a man and get down with one faithful woman.
Still, Durant’s reasoning makes sense. The man eats, sleeps, and breathes basketball. Between training, games, and chasing championships, where’s he supposed to fit in romantic date nights and couple therapy sessions?
At least he’s honest. Most celebrities fake the “I just haven’t found the one yet” line. KD doesn’t have time for marriage, and that’s the kind of transparency we respect.
