As the University of Michigan grapples with the sudden firing and subsequent arrest of head football coach Sherrone Moore, the 39-year-old’s digital footprint is facing intense scrutiny.
Among the social media posts resurfacing in the wake of the scandal is a 2018 tweet in which Moore publicized his attendance at a Kentucky Derby event hosted by Sean “Diddy” Combs.
The tweet, dated May 4, 2018, has been widely circulated by social media users and sports blogs this week. In it, Moore—then a tight ends coach for the Wolverines—celebrated a trip to Louisville for the Kentucky Derby, specifically tagging the “Trifecta Gala” hosted by Combs.
“Off to the ville for the weekend to enjoy the #KentuckyDerby Festivities! @trifectagala hosted by @Diddy tonight to start it off! #BonjourBlue #CantStopWontStop,” Moore wrote.
While there is no evidence suggesting Moore had a personal relationship with Combs beyond attending the high-profile charity event, the connection has drawn sharp criticism due to Combs’ recent legal downfall. In July 2025, Combs was convicted on sex trafficking charges and sentenced to over four years in federal prison.
For Moore, the resurfaced post adds another layer of embarrassment to a week that has seen his career implode.
On Wednesday, Michigan fired Moore with cause after an internal investigation found “credible evidence” of an inappropriate relationship with his executive assistant, Paige Shiver. Hours later, he was arrested at an Ann Arbor residence in connection with an alleged assault.
The unraveling of Moore’s tenure has emboldened internet sleuths to comb through his past online behavior. In addition to the Combs tweet, users have highlighted Moore’s Instagram activity, which allegedly includes direct messages to models and a following list populated by adult content creators.
“There were signs,” one user commented on X (formerly Twitter) regarding the accumulation of controversial associations.
Moore remains held at the Washtenaw County Jail pending arraignment. The university has not commented on his personal social media history.
