Tampa Bay Bucs Tight End Jerramy Stevens was arrested Saturday for possession of weed. Yes, Saturday as in the day BEFORE he takes the field and preforms his JOB. Stevens was arrested in Hillsborough County and charged with a felony count of possession of cannabis with intent to SELL, a felony count of possession of cannabis, and a misdemeanor count of drug paraphernalia. There are so many more questions than answers about this situation, but we do have an answer to one of the most important, will Stevens play Sunday against the Rams?
The Tampa Bay Bucs have issued this statement regarding Stevens:
“We’re deeply disappointed by this news. We take such matters seriously,” team spokesman Jonathan Grella said. “Obviously, Jerramy Stevens will not be participating today. We will address this matter with the seriousness it deserves, but in the meantime, we’re focused on the Rams game.”
I know Stevens isn’t a top-paid player in the league, but to resort to selling drugs? I really don’t understand that line of thinking. Also, I’m not Tony Montana or anything, but I don’t think selling weed is the quickest way to make money as far as the drug trade(anonymous opinions are welcome on this). Another question that comes to mind, if he wasn’t trying to sell, why are you in ten feet of any type of drug, especially during the season??
The Bucs are 3-2 and are trying to avoid being a .500 team, the last thing they need is this distraction. Stevens is third on the depth chart and so his absence won’t have a large impact on the field Sunday.
