It appears the Memphis Grizzlies have decided to move in a different direction at their head coaching position. When we reported the news that the Grizzlies had given Lionel Hollins permission to talk to other teams, you knew the writing was on the wall.
Now we see what kind of direction the Grizzlies want to go in to replace Hollins, and reportedly they are looking in-house for the next head coach. According to Sam Amick of USA Today Sports, that man could be assistant coach Dave Joerger.
The Grizzlies are eyeing Memphis assistant Dave Joerger as a possible replacement for Hollins and are confident that he could help retain the “Grit and Grind” culture that has become such a fabric of the team and the town. Grizzlies management is expected to meet soon with Joerger to discuss the situation while Hollins tests his market value.
I think it’s obvious management and Hollins have two different vision for the team’s future. Because otherwise, I can’t understand why the Grizzlies seem so eager to replace Hollins.
We’ll have to see how it plays out, but I believe it is safe to say Hollins won’t be back in Memphis next season.
