I’m not sure what Malcolm X and Woody Hayes have in common besides reaching their greatest heights at the same time during the mid-60’s.
Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh is sporting some new glasses, and after Michigan’s 41-8 win against Illinois on Saturday, was asked why’s he wearing them?
I’m not sure if he was trolling or sincere — but Harbaugh said the glasses were tribute to former Ohio State coach Woody Hayes, actor Michael Douglas, and civil rights activist Malcolm X.
Jim Harbaugh now wearing black-rimmed glasses full time. Said the style is in honor of Woody Hayes, Michael Douglas and Malcolm X.

Harbaugh explained that he was told earlier this month by his eye doctor that he’d be forced to wear eyeglasses moving forward.
“This style in particular is a tip of the cap, a nod to Woody Hayes, to Michael Douglas in the movie “Falling Down” and also a tip of the cap to Malcolm X,” Harbaugh said. “In honor of those three men.”
The homage to Malcolm X was particular peculiar — seeing as the Michigan coach said he didn’t agree with the “motivation” behind Colin Kaepernick’s activism.
Harbaugh later apologized and misspoke, but it’s obvious the Malcolm X reference was low-key pandering to the many black athletes considering the Wolverines.
