A group of conservatives hosted an affirmative action bake sale on Wednesday causing a lot of backlash to their fellow classmates and administrators. The students are part of the Austin chapter of the Young Conservatives Of Texas, says that the purpose of the bake sale was to demonstrate the immorality of discriminating on the basis of race in any setting.
”Our protest was designed to highlight the insanity of assigning our lives value based on our race and ethnicity, rather than our talents, work ethic, and intelligence,” YCT-UT Chairman Vidal Castañeda said in a press release. “It is insane that institutional racism, such as affirmative action, continues to allow for universities to judge me by the color of my skin rather than my actions.”
They charged Asian males $1.50 for baked goods in order to reflect on tangible discrimination in university admissions against that demographic. Asian Females were charged $1.25, White males $1.00,White Females $0.75, Blacks and Hispanic males were charged $0.50 while their female mate only had to pay a $0.25 for a baked good. Native American students received free cookies. The bake sale didn’t last long as students came criticizing them for what the believed was racist demonstration.
