Sad news out of Philadelphia Eagles training camp this morning. Garrett Reid, the oldest son of head coach Andy Reid was found dead in his Lehigh University dorm room.
The details from Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer.
The 29-year-old son of Eagles coach Andy Reid and his wife, Tammy, had been assisting the team, helping out with strength and conditioning during training camp.
Eagles general manager Howie Roseman addressed the media and delivered the news.
“I have some heartbreaking news to share with you all,” an emotional Roseman said. “It is with great sadness that I tell you Garrett Reid, the oldest son of Coach Reid, was found dead this morning in his room here at training camp. This is a tough morning for all us.”
Garrett Reid had previously had problems with drugs, spending two years in state mandated rehab after a 2007 incident. Details from ESPN.com
Garrett Reid was sentenced to two years in a state drug rehabilitation program in July 2008 after being caught with 89 prescription pills inside his rectum at the Montgomery County Prison. He was in the county prison on charges related to a January 2007 car crash that seriously injured a woman.
In November, 2007, Garrett Reid, who was then 24 years old, was sentenced to 23 months in prison for smashing up another motorist’s car while he was high on heroin. His younger brother Britt got 22 months plus probation.
Very sad news. Our prayers go out and we wish the Reid family strength during this very tough time.
